🎮 Configuring Xbox Game Pass on ggRock

Xbox Game Pass can be configured on ggRock much like other game launchers, with a few key considerations. This guide walks you through installation, testing, and deployment following ggCircuit best practices.

⚖️ Recommendation

Because of Microsoft Store / Xbox Game Pass requirements, there are two supported approaches:

  1. Use the existing system drive: Install Xbox Game Pass titles to the current system (c:\) drive.
  2. Remediation option: Create a new Games Image with a 4K block size and install Game Pass games there.

💡 Most users already have a games drive created. You only need to create a new one (formatted with 4K) if you encounter compatibility issues and choose that remediation path.

1. Install the Xbox App

⚠️ Important: Always install the Xbox app to the system image (C:), not the games drive. Some applications will fail if forced to install elsewhere.

  • On your test machine, install the Xbox app to C:.
  • Configure the Xbox app to install Game Pass titles to your games drive (e.g., G:\Games).

2. Test Functionality

  • Launch the Xbox app.
  • Install and run a game.
  • Verify that the game launches and plays successfully.

3. Apply Writebacks

  • Shut down the machine.
  • In the ggRock Web UI, go to Machines.
  • Select your test machine → Apply Writebacks to commit the changes to the image(s).

✅ Best Practices & Tips

  • Use a consistent drive letter (such as G:) for the games drive across all machines.
  • Do not use hardlinks or junctions to redirect apps—install the Xbox app itself only to C:.
  • If you encounter blue screens after installing certain Game Pass titles, review crash dump settings here:
