Hold Up!

If you're inundated with all this information don't worry, we're here to assist!Reach out to us at sales@ggcircuit.comWe'll be more than happy to discuss how we can help ease some of the burden from your shoulders through our server configuration and on-site services.

🧱 What is ggRock?

ggRock is a diskless boot platform that runs all your gaming PCs from a single server — no hard drives needed in Client Machines.

💻 What hardware do I need to run ggRock?

We recommend enterprise-grade components that balance performance, reliability, and caching capacity.

➡️ Check out our recommended hardware guide

🧠 How much RAM do I need?

As much as you can get. ggRock uses RAM as a cache for Client Machines.

  • 100 PCs booting the same game → ~8–16GB may work
  • 100 PCs running different games → more RAM = better performance

🧬 Can I use AMD CPUs?

Yes. We recommend Intel Xeon (ECC RAM, IPMI support), but AMD Ryzen/Threadripper/EPYC also work.

💾 What's the best way to back up ggRock?

Here are the main options:

  • OS Images & Game Drives: Back these up via the ggRock UI using the Export feature. This can be to internal storage attached to the server, or any valid linux mountpoint from which your backup solution can ingest the *.ggrb backup files.
  • ggRock Server: You may install an antivirus agent directly to the ggRock server to back up the server OS, and optionally if your antivirus solution supports deep introspection of ZFS filesystems you may opt to back up the ggRock array directly rather than to a monolithic file.

Pro tip: Keep offsite or cloud backups for disaster recovery.

🌐 Can I change the ggRock web interface from port 80?

Not currently. This requires major system changes. Let us know if it’s a need.

📜 Is ggRock open source?

No. ggRock is closed-source but includes an open-source configurator component.

Managed Services clients can request a compliance report.

🔄 Migrating from ccBoot?

ggRock does not support ccBoot Game Drives, and .vhd OS images may not work reliably. Not to fear, it’s easy to make a new image, and if you want we can do it for you with our managed services offerings!

🛡️ Can I use antivirus software like CrowdStrike or Trend Micro?

Yes, but with care.

Heavy antivirus suites may interfere with diskless performance and caching. For best results:

  • Use lightweight or endpoint-only agents.
  • Avoid scheduled scans.
  • Whitelist ggLeap and ggRock clients in your AV console.

Contact support if you need help tuning AV settings for your environment.

🧮 Why is ggRock using all my server's RAM?

This is expected. ggRock caches OS and Game Drives in memory for speed. You can reserve RAM for the OS or VMs in the settings.

🪟 What about Windows licensing?

Each Client Machine still needs a valid Windows license.

  • Small setups: OEM, Retail, or Volume Licensing
  • Larger orgs: Microsoft 365, Windows Enterprise, or Education licenses

💾 Can I use consumer SSDs (like the Samsung 860 EVO) instead of enterprise SSDs with PLP (like the Micron 5200/9300 or Samsung 883)?

Yes, you can use consumer SSDs if enterprise-grade drives with Power Loss Protection (PLP) aren’t available or don’t fit your budget.

⚠️ However, enterprise SSDs with PLP are strongly recommended for improved reliability and data integrity—especially in production environments or under heavy write workloads.
