## Hardware Specifications and Recommendations

### Key Recommendations

* **Disable hardware RAID.** Use HBA mode or JBOD. The system should see individual disks. Most onboard SATA controllers are sufficient. Disable RAID mode in BIOS.
* **Prioritize core/thread count over CPU frequency.** CPUs such as Intel Core i3/i5/i7/i9, Intel Xeon E, AMD Ryzen, and Threadripper are usable but not ideal.
* **Use ECC RAM** to reduce the risk of data loss due to memory errors.
* **Avoid QLC SSDs and HDDs.** They have low I/O performance (~50–60MB/s) and may cause game throttling, crashes, or BSODs.
* **Use SSDs with PLP (Power Loss Protection).** These prevent data loss during unexpected shutdowns. Many are priced similarly to consumer SSDs.
* **Client NICs must support PXE boot.** Server NIC must be Linux-compatible.
* **Use RAID1 or RAID10** for redundancy. Avoid RAID5/6 unless using NVMe drives. RAID setup is handled in the ggRock UI.
* **Install ggRock on bare metal.** Virtualized environments are not supported.
* **Avoid complex managed switch features.** These may offload processing from the server to slower switch hardware.
* **Keep at least 15% free space** on data drives to maintain performance and SSD lifespan.
