Shop categories now show everything under them (Shop & Inventory management)

Release note · Shop & Inventory management · Web Admin 1.9684.0.0 (October 2026)

Picking a category tab used to list only the items filed directly on it, so a category whose items all live in sub-categories came up empty. It now lists everything under it. Search changed with it: it covers the whole shop and tells you where each result came from.

At a glance

Before

Now

A category tab listed only its own items. If they all sat in sub-categories, the grid was empty, sometimes filling in only after a refresh.

A category tab lists its own items and every sub-category's.

The app quietly jumped you to the first sub-category that had anything in it, to hide the empty grid.

No more jumping. You land on the whole category and narrow it yourself.

Merged lists came out shuffled, because each sub-category numbers its items from 1.

One rule everywhere: a category's own items first, then each sub-category's group in tab order.

Search results gave you a name and nothing else.

Results span every category, sit in shop order, and each tile is captioned with where it lives.

A search with no matches showed a blank grid.

It says No items match "…".

Dragging an item while on a category tab renumbered everything on screen, rewriting sub-categories you never opened.

A drag only renumbers the item's own sub-category.

A category tab means everything under it

Changed · Shop · Inventory management

Select a tab with no sub-category pill active and you get the whole category: its own items plus every sub-category's, in one grid.

GamePasses tab showing all 13 items

GamePasses, nothing narrowed. All 13 passes. Not one of them is filed directly on the category: they are split across Standard Pricing (9), Special Offers (3) and Monthly or yearly (1). This tab is exactly the case that used to come up blank.

Narrowing, and getting back

  • Tap a sub-category pill: the grid narrows to that sub-category alone.
  • Tap the same pill again: the filter clears and the whole category comes back.
  • Switch to another category tab: any pill you had selected is dropped.

GamePasses narrowed to Standard Pricing

Same tab, Standard Pricing selected. 9 of the 13. Tapping the pill again brings all 13 back.

ℹ️ If you were used to landing on a sub-category without picking one, that was the old workaround for the empty grid, and it is gone. You now always start on the full category.

The order items come in

Changed · Everywhere items are listed

Merging several groups into one grid needed a tie-break, because every sub-category numbers its own items from the start. Sorting the merged list by that number alone interleaved the groups. The rule now, in the Shop, in Inventory management and in search results alike:

  1. Categories in tab order, left to right.
  2. Within a category, its own items first.
  3. Then each sub-category's items, sub-categories in their own tab order.
  4. Within any one group, the order you arranged by dragging.

Dota 2 Items: own items before sub-category items

Dota 2 Items. The two items filed on the category itself come first, then the four in Couriers. Inside a single sub-category nothing changed: that was already the arranged order.

Search covers the whole shop

Changed · Search products

Searching leaves the category tabs behind and looks everywhere. Results arrive in the order the shop is laid out, and each tile carries the path it came from, so two items with similar names from different corners of the shop can be told apart. Hover the caption for the full path if it is too long for the tile.

Shop search results captioned with their category path

Six results for "pass". Each tile is captioned GamePasses / Standard Pricing, GamePasses / Special Offers and so on, and they are in that order because that is the order the shop is laid out in. An item filed straight on a category shows just the category name, like Prizes at the end.

ℹ️ While the next set of results loads, what is already on screen stays put under a progress bar and is replaced in one go, instead of the grid emptying and refilling.

When there is nothing to show

New · Shop · Inventory management

A bare grid used to be the answer to every empty case. Each one now says what it is.

No items match message

A search with no matches. The result count gives way to the message, so you aren't told "0 results" twice.

Situation

What you see

Search with no matches

No items match "…"

Empty category, in the Shop

No items in stock · There are no sellable items here right now.

Empty category, in Inventory management

No items added · There are no items here yet. With an Add item button.

No categories at all

No categories yet · Once you add a category and an item, it will appear here for staff and customers.

ℹ️ The empty block carries the selected category's own icon rather than a generic one. A sub-category has no icon of its own, so its parent's stands in.

Inventory management follows the same rules

Changed · Settings → Shop settings → Inventory management

The admin side was brought in line so that what you arrange is what you see: the same merged listing, the same ordering rule, the same captioned search.

Inventory management search results with captions

Searching in Inventory management. The same six results, the same captions, the same order as the Shop.

⚠️ One thing to know about dragging: on a category tab you are now looking at several sub-categories at once, so a tile can only be dropped among items from its own sub-category, and only that sub-category gets renumbered. Before, one drag on a category tab rewrote the order of sub-categories you had never opened.

  • Dragging stays switched off while a search is active: search results aren't the arrangement.
  • An order is only sent when it actually changed, so picking a tile up and putting it back costs nothing.
  • To move an item into a different sub-category, drag it onto that sub-category's tab as before, or change the Sub-category dropdown on its form.

Quick sale picked up the captions too (results there are labelled with the sub-category only), and its own ordering (offers first, then by sales) no longer shifts with the shop's.

FAQ

A category shows far more items than it used to. Did something get moved?
No. Nothing was refiled: the tab simply shows its sub-categories' items as well now. Tap a sub-category pill to get the old, narrower view.

Why doesn't it open on a sub-category any more?
That jump only existed to cover up the empty grid. With the category showing everything, it isn't needed, and it was unreliable: it was the reason the grid sometimes stayed empty until you refreshed.

My items are in a different order on the category tab.
Expected. On a category tab they are now grouped: the category's own items, then each sub-category in tab order. Open a single sub-category and the order inside it is exactly as you arranged it.

Can I still drag items into a different position from the category tab?
Yes, within the item's own sub-category. Dropping it among another sub-category's items isn't allowed, so one drag can't scramble groups you weren't looking at.

What is the small grey line under a search result?
Where the item lives: Category / Sub-category, or just the category if it isn't in one. Hover it to see the full path when it's clipped.

Does any of this change what a customer sees on the gaming PCs?
No. This is the web admin Shop and Inventory management only.
