Formats

Format

How it works

Single Elimination

Knockout bracket; one loss eliminates a player

Single Elimination with Consolation

Single elimination, but players with a loss move into a consolation bracket

Double Elimination

Eliminated after two losses; one loss drops a player to a lower bracket

Round-robin

Every player plays every other player; ranked by wins

Swiss-system

Players face similarly performing opponents each round, no eliminations; winner by total points

Leaderboard

Points-based; players ranked by points accumulated over the competition

Ladder

Continuous competition where players challenge each other to move up in rank

Two-stage

Qualifier stage plus finals/playoff stage; the qualifier can be a group stage (groups > 1) where only top players per group advance

Seeding

Method

How it works

Advantage

Most common. Higher seeds get a significant edge (8 players: 1 plays 8, 2 plays 7, 3 plays 6)

Equitable

Niche. Lower seeds get an easier path, narrowing the gap between seeds

Shuffle

Randomly places players in the bracket

Note: Round-robin and leaderboard formats have no seeding, since they do not need a prior ranking.

Games per match (best-of)

Sets how many games are played in each matchup so you can score each game.

Note: If later rounds use a different number of games, set this to the maximum.

Max players

Caps how many players can join

Require teams

Requires signup as a team; Team size sets the minimum team size

Signup period

When signups are allowed

Manual player entry

Required if Signup link is unchecked (there is no signup step). Optional if checked; added players pre-populate the signup list

Descriptive fields

Optional details used on the landing page and in the Community Hub

Start date, end date, Schedule matches

Enables scheduling individual matchups. An end date on a later day lets you set the specific day of each match

Accept signups

With Signup link checked, you manage a virtual signup sheet. Players sign up with their player accounts so results link to their profile.
You can also add guest players or teams (no account) manually by name.

Players scan the QR code or use the link to sign up with their ggLeap tournaments player profile. Their result is added to their account automatically.

Note: With a public landing page, the sign-up link (not the QR code) points to the landing page.

Review registration responses

  1. Open the Form Responses tab to see all responses, including profile links, contact info, and custom field answers.
  2. Responses not yet added appear in the Pending tab.
  3. Press Add to make a response an official participant, or the X icon to discard spam.

Edit before starting

Press Edit details on the sign-up page. Nearly every setting is editable, including format and structure.
You can also change the Public tournament toggle to finish edits before the tournament is visible.

Editing tournament details

Configure the registration form

Every tournament with a signup link has a registration form with sensible defaults (full name and email are collected by default).
Path: Tournament > Edit details > Players & sign-ups > Configure custom fields & advanced settings.

The “Configure custom fields & advanced settings” link in the “Players & sign-ups” section of the edit details page

Custom fields

Select Add Field in the data collection section to add text fields, dropdowns, or yes/no questions. Press the trash can icon to remove a field.

Warning: Adding or removing fields does not affect data already collected. You can still view a registrant's answer to a removed field.

Advanced settings

Setting

What it does

Require Sign-in

Blocks guest registration; players must be signed in to their player accounts

Sign-in methods (after Require Sign-in)

Email magic link (default), ggCircuit OAuth (account tied to your center), Discord OAuth, FACEIT OAuth. To limit registration to existing center accounts, select only ggCircuit OAuth

Email domains

Limits registration to listed domains, comma separated (example: example.edu``, example.org). Empty means any email can register

Warning: Restricting sign-in methods or email domains adds friction and can lower registration conversion. Use these only for non-public events or when operations require it.

Important: Press Update registration form settings to save and apply changes.

Promote with a landing page and the Community Hub

With Public tournament enabled, ggLeap generates a landing page from your tournament details. Its call to action is Join tournament, which opens your registration form.

SEO and AI discoverability

Community Hub link

On the main dashboard. The button is active only if at least one tournament is currently public; the link stays active afterward

Start the tournament

Press Start tournament to close signups and begin.

Warning: For seeded formats such as single and double elimination, order players by pre-rank (seed) before starting. Players are placed using the seeding method you chose at creation.

Run the tournament

Initial matchups come from the format and seeding. An admin or organizer keeps score and selects winners. ggLeap determines later matchups automatically and suggests a match number and order to avoid bottlenecks.

A scheduled match

Share a live view

Press Share (top right) for sharing options, or right-click Share to open the read-only link directly. The view updates live as the tournament progresses, so you can show it on a TV or share it for mobile viewing. Players also see rankings, history, and metadata.

Show the bracket only

Click the expand icon (top right) to hide the matchup list and show only the bracket.

Undo a result

For a tournament with a sign-up link, pressing Undo before any match update returns the tournament to the sign-up phase.

Reset the tournament

Go to View details and press Reset.

Warning: Reset is irreversible. It clears the bracket and all results. Prefer Undo in most cases.

Rankings and history
