ggLeap VNC Feature - Network Requirements
Network Requirements for Remote Screen Support (VNC)
Overview
ggLeap includes a remote screen viewing feature that support staff can use to help troubleshoot machines directly.
For this feature to work, a small number of outbound connections need to be allowed through your network firewall.
If remote screen support attempts are timing out or failing to connect, check the firewall requirements below first.
Required Firewall Allowances
Your network firewall must allow outbound connections to the following:
Purpose | Address | Port | Protocol |
|---|---|---|---|
Remote support service check | 80 | HTTP | |
Remote support connection | 7443 | HTTPS (SSL) | |
These are the only two addresses that need to be allowed for this feature to function. We recommend allowing them specifically rather than opening broader rules. |
Local Machine Requirement
In addition to the firewall rule above, the machine being remotely supported needs to allow its own local remote screen service to listen on port 5900. This is a local Windows Firewall setting on the machine itself, not something that needs to be opened on your network firewall or router.
How to Confirm It's Working
You can test that the remote support address is reachable by opening the following in a web browser on the affected machine:
https://vnc-api.ggleap.comA healthy response confirms basic connectivity.
If this loads but remote screen connections still fail or time out, the issue is most likely the port 7443 rule for vnc-gw.ggleap.com rather than the API address itself.
Common Symptoms of a Blocked Connection
- Remote screen requests appear to start but never connect
- The connection attempt times out after roughly 30-40 seconds
- The issue persists across multiple attempts and multiple support sessions
If you're seeing these symptoms, please check with your network administrator that both addresses above are allowed outbound, and that no proxy, deep packet inspection, or SSL inspection rule is interfering with the connection to vnc-gw.ggleap.com:7443.
Need Help?
If you've confirmed the firewall rules above and remote screen support is still not connecting, please reach out to our support team with:
- The name of the affected machine
- Roughly when the connection attempt was made
- Confirmation of whether
https://vnc-api.ggleap.comloads successfully in a browser on that machine
