User Login: Smart Card Manual

Overview: This article covers setting up the ACS1251U SmartCard reader with ggLeap — from hardware/driver install, to enabling Smart Card as a login method, to managing linked cards on user profiles.


1. Introduction

Welcome to the ggLeap SmartCard integration guide using the ACS1251U SmartCard reader. This manual walks through connecting the reader, installing drivers, enabling Smart Card as a login method, and using SmartCard features within the ggLeap client.


2. Getting Started

2.1 Connect the ACS1251U SmartCard Reader

  • Plug the ACS1251U SmartCard reader into an available USB port on the client PC.
  • Technically any USB smartcard reader should function, but this model is the one that was tested.


2.2 Install SmartCard Reader Drivers

  • Install the necessary drivers for the ACS1251U SmartCard reader. Refer to the manufacturer's website or any accompanying installation media for driver installation instructions.


2.3 Enable Smart Card Login Method

Before the SmartCard reader can be used with ggLeap, Smart Card must first be enabled as a login method in the Web Admin.
Steps to Enable Smart Card Login

  1. Log in to the ggLeap Web Admin.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Client Configuration → General Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Login method section.
  4. Enable the Smart Card toggle.
  5. Click Save changes.


Prerequisites: Employee ggLeap permission Can edit center config is required to change this setting.



Notes


Enabling Smart Card allows existing registered users to log in by swiping their registered NFC card on the reader.


Requires compatible hardware (e.g., ACS1251U) connected to the client PC


Smart Card login can be enabled alongside other login methods — Default, Google, Facebook, Apple, and Manual account creation at PC.



2.4 Run ggLeap

  • Start the ggLeap Client on the computer.


3. SmartCard Integration with ggLeap

3.1 Automatic SmartCard Detection

  • Once ggLeap is running, it automatically detects the connected ACS1251U SmartCard reader.


3.2 SmartCard Single Sign-On (SSO)

  • When a user swipes an NFC tag that is linked to a user, that user is logged in automatically via SmartCard SSO.
  • If the swiped NFC tag is not linked to any user, the Create Account page is shown instead (see 3.3).


3.3 Create Account (External Sign-Up)

  • If an NFC tag is not linked to an existing user, ggLeap displays the Create Account page.
  • External sign-up is allowed even if account creation is otherwise disabled by default.
  • After the user completes registration, the swiped card is linked to that newly created user.


3.4 User Registration

  • Fill in the required user details on the Create Account page.
  • After successful registration, ggLeap links the NFC tag to the newly created user account.


3.5 SmartCard UID (Serial Number)

  • SmartCardUid = Serial Number of the NFC tag.
  • It is the unique identifier linking the SmartCard to the user account.


4. Managing the Smart Card

Linking, changing, or unlinking a SmartCard UID is done through the user's profile:

  1. Go to the user's profile.
  2. Click More Actions.
  3. Click Manage Smart Card.
  • Link a SmartCard: Enter the SmartCard UID.
  • Unlink a SmartCard: Leave the UID field empty.


Important: When entering a SmartCard UID, do NOT include colons if they appear in the UID format.

Known Supported NFC reader:

  • ACS1251U
